These are probably the single most famous pair of shoes on the face of the Earth. Judy Garland’s ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz are seen here as they’ve never been seen before (or not!). The remarkable thing about these shoes is the fact that they are fastened with a buckle. Buckles are rarely used in the manufacturing of slippers anymore. The world is poorer place as a result!

Raindrops on roses and knee high leather boots at wholesale prices…these are a few of my favourite things. When did having a foot fetish become something to be ashamed of? My footwear collection is comprised of over one thousand pairs of shoes, boots, clogs and sandals in different styles and sizes. If I had to choose just one item in my assortment to take with me to a desert island it would come down to a choice between my brightly coloured, oversized clown shoes and my steel capped ballet slippers. Who could deny how much The Cat Empire love footwear? No one! Shoes have been vital to the success of the band and general foot hygiene and care, play an important part in the band’s touring regime. My bed is shaped like a gym boot and the wall paper in the study is adorned with cartoon images of pink slippers and baby’s booties. Read the rest of this entry »

This is a cute movie about a girl and her pretty pink shoes. I don’t want to give too much away but….let’s just say it is a real emotional roller coaster ride about the important decisions everyone has to make at some point in their lives. It shows how important footwear can be and just how fragile the bond can be between a girl and her favourite shoe!

My first vivid memory of my father was shortly after I was born. I was strapped into my bassinet on the veranda with an unobstructed view of the front lawn. Dad was lying under the tractor doing some repairs. I knew it was him because, even at that age, I recognised his filthy, black gum boots. I think they were the only footwear he owned. Mum always wanted him to wear fancy shoes but he refused, saying they made him look like a “raving poof”. Read the rest of this entry »

I guess it’s a sign of the times but I find it hard to hide my frustration sometimes. When I see a barefoot child walking down the main street of my home town, I feel like vomiting and crying at the same time. Leather shoes made this country great back in the early 50s and now everyone seems to have turned a blind eye to the fact that footwear has fallen out of favour in a really big way. What ever happened to the days when a man could be proud to wear his slip-on loafers out to dinner without fear of retribution? Read the rest of this entry »
