Golf Shoes

The first pair of golf shoes were invented by Harvey Golf in 1987. Harvey borrowed his father’s gum boots and stapled thumb tacks to the sole to act as sprigs. The greens keeper at his local golf course hated Harvey’s guts and threatened to burn him on several occasions. Styles range from boring to exotic. Many variations feature a frilly bit at the front which seems to serve no purpose. Full leather uppers have recently replaced Harvey’s preferred full rubber uppers.

When you consider buying golf shoes there are several things to look out for. The first and most important thing to consider is whether or not the shoe has a hole to put your foot into. Secondly, the shoe should have smaller holes through which a length of chord or lace can be laced in order to fasten the shoe to your foot. Last, but not least, there should be some material between your foot and the ground. The sole is normally made of rubber or titanium and should vary in weight between light as a feather and heavy as lead.

Everybody agrees that golf is a boring game and should probably be banned. We all know that the amount of land wasted on golf courses all around the world could be put to better use. If golf was outlawed, golf shoes would have to be renamed. I think a good name would be spiky leisure shoes or branbies. Sports footwear would not be the same without this pioneering variety leading the way. This country wouldn’t be in the mess it is today if it wasn’t for golf shoes.
